It's official. Grand Theft Auto: San Andres is OFFICIALLY now rated AO (Adults Only) by the ESRB. Target, Best Buy, and many other major stores have PULLED GTA games from their shelves, as they refuse to sell AO rated games.
This happened because a hack was found, that allowed you to play a mini-game that involved an UNCENSORED sex scene with a girl in the game. This was ALSO found to be an added feature in the REAL version of the game. It was a hidden BONUS. Now that this was found, Rockstar is quickly pulling that part off of the game, and resending the game to stores to try and make their name back.

Those "freakin conservative assholes" just made a SMART decision. Grand Theft Auto should have been made rated AO from the VERY beginning, with it's controversial topics.

You can't make something AO just because it's controversial. The ACTUAL content in the game fell under "Mature", not AO (of course, it pushed that to its limits -- but so what? So did Conker's Bad Fur Day. So did The Getaway, so did lots of games). And I think it's rather stupid that they made it AO now... it's not an unlockable bonus, like you said. It's a feature left in the game (it wasn't supposed to be there) and you have to use a patch or hack to access it. Ratings should be based on the content found within the normal game itself. It would be like rating UT2K4 or The Sims AO because you can make nude skins; or making Tomb Raider AO because you could use the Gameshark to make Lara Croft nude. Shouldn't this be in the video game board?

So with this logic I can go around modding childrens games to have porn in them and the ESRB should change the rating to AO, right?

Hell, I can't tell the difference. The highest Cert here is 18 and GTA's always been Cert 18. However, to see The Sims naked, you needed a Cheat, not a hack. Also on The Sims, you can tell they're naked but they don't really have much detail. If that's the same with GTA games, that there's not alot of detail, then it should have it's original certificate. Maybe there should be a warning on the boxes that there are AO rated extras that are unlikely to be acsessed.

Maybe there should be a warning on the boxes that there are AO rated extras that are unlikely to be acsessed. A warning wouldn't help because that means it's still illegal for anyone under 17 (or is it 18?) to PLAY it. Mature games CAN be played if you're under 17 as long as you have parental consent and a parent (or responsible adult) buys it for you. Also, it really is graphic. If that was in the game normally, yes it wold definitely be AO-worthy. But the fact that you can't access it without modding the game means it should still be M, in my opinion. It wasn't meant to be found... it wasn't even supposed to be there still. Edit: HEY CHECK IT OUT! Jack Thompson is now going after THE SIMS 2. Everything can be found here. He called it worse than Hot Coffee. I'm pretty sure I used the analogy of going after The Sims 2 if you're going to go after San Andreas. God, that man is an idiot.
