Because it's NOT. The person who wrote the script had never even seen the movie! I find that EXTREMELY hard to believe. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is like Princess Bride...everyoine has seen it. I have never met anyone that has NEVER seen either one of these.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is like Princess Bride...everyoine has seen it. I have never met anyone that has NEVER seen either one of these. Check out the trivia section of IMDB. I also read it in a couple other places (Entertainment Weekly, I think?). Also, check out some of the reviews of the new one on Netflix.com. I saw a couple of them that said the reviewer hadn't seen the original. Oh, and I know a couple people who hadn't seen The Princess Bride when I met them. And I know someone who hasn't seen Wizard of Oz. To say EVERYONE has seen some classic/popular film is absurd.

Just talking to you is really f**king pissing me off. Maybe it's because of trying to get things ready for my college application...even though it's my junior year...but it's just pissing me off.

It's pissing you off because I'm pointing out that it's unreasonable to say EVERYONE in the world has seen such-and-such a movie? Nice.
And maybe I'm acting like I'm right because in this circumstance I am right in that it is not, technically, a remake. They didn't take the old script and analyze & rewrite it. They took the novel and adapted it into a screenplay. They didn't even look at the old film for inspiration on purpose.

Then... I don't see why you have such a hard time believing that the man who wrote the script hadn't seen it. Sure it's unlikely, but it's still possible. I mean, I've met people who haven't seen Star Wars.
Anyway, I suppose this is going nowhere. I strongly recommend this movie. It's great. If you won't see it because of some stupid "omg they shouldn't remake that!11" reason suit yourself; but you're denying yourself a good film for a lame reason.

Well since I have no desire to waste my money on a movie (that from the ads) looks stupid....I'm not going to do it.

Well since I have no desire to waste my money on a movie (that from the ads) looks stupid....I'm not going to do it. See that's a far more reasonable reason than "I'm not going to see it because they shouldn't have remade it." The ads for it SUCK though. Seriously. Most everyone I know thought it would be stupid because of the commercials and trailers but loved the film when they finally saw it. Sometimes you just can't trust trailers.
